If you’re into 5-door hatchbacks, you’ll certainly be interested in this new premium machine from Volvo.
For starters, the Volvo V40 will come with a 254-horsepower turbo five that will take it from 0-62 mph in 6.7-seconds. It also comes equipped with start-stop engine management and regenerative braking so that you get maximum fuel economy, regardless of whether you go with the manual or automatic transmission.
As for safety, expect low-speed collision avoidance, pedestrian detection with full auto brake, and, get this… the world’s first pedestrian airbag. You can’t make this stuff up. Checkout the video below to see it in action.
The V40, although technically a new model, is expected to replace the existing C30 hatchback, S40 sedan and V50 wagon.
And while Volvo reportedly contemplated a stateside release, it now appears as though the new hatchback will only be delivered in Europe, with units coming from its assembly plant in Ghent, Belgium.
