In an interview with Automotive Magazine, Tesla Motors and Space X CEO, Elon Musk called the Fisker Karma “a mediocre car at a high price”. The Fisker Karma is a plugin-in hybrid in the luxury tier and starts at $102,000 for the basic model and up to $116,000 for the top end model. It was recently reported that a Fisker Karma caught on fire while stopped at a Woodside, California parking lot. Fisker Automotive recalled 239 2012 Karma plug-in hybrid sedans.
According to the interview, Musk said Fisker Karma’s fundamental problem lies within its engineering philosophy. Much of the Karma’s design was outsourced to multiple companies – companies that do cannot solve the problem. “He outsourced the engineering and manufacturing. But the fact is…that’s the crux of the problem. And he’s outsourcing to people who don’t know how to solve the problem.”
Tesla’s Model S starts at $57,500 and can go up to $105,400 for the better performing version.
