2013 Audi R8 V10 Plus

2013 Audi R8 V10 Plus

Audi is said to be completely redesigning the R8 in 2014. But until then, we believe this refresh will more than suffice.

The entire 2013 R8 lineup is being revamped. But most impressive is a new flagship V10 Plus model.

Updated styling includes a revised front bumper and grille, redesigned LED headlights and taillights, LED illumination in the engine compartment, a larger diffuser and new circular tailpipes. Many of the car’s features are also now made of lightweight carbon fiber, including the front splitter, mirrors, side blades and rear diffuser.

But forget about looks for a moment. Let’s talk performance… starting with an all new seven-speed S-tronic transmission that works with two mult-plate clutches to deliver smoother shifting. Of course, a six-speed manual is still offered. But take note: Audi claims that the S-tronic is both faster and more fuel-efficient (although that seems to be typical these days, thanks to advancements in technology).

How fast and how fuel-efficient are we talking here? Well, a 5.2-liter V10 producing 550 horsepower and 398 pound-feet torque will get you to 62 mph in a mere 3.5 seconds, with a top speed of 197 mph. And you get to have all that fun while getting an impressive 18 mpg, on average.

Okay, so it’s not that impressive when comparing the R8 V10 Plus to the Porsche 918 Spyder Prototype - which gets a mind-blowing 94 mpg. But hey, 18 still isn’t bad, considering the power.

Oh, and, for an estimated $210,341, you’ll also get a standard navigation system, a Bang & Olufsen Sound System, and a choice of matte colors.
